ECONOMIC CHARTER OF RIGHTS

A Bold New Idea Whose Time Has Come

Frank Stronach is a passionate believer that the best way to maintain a strong and vibrant economy that works for the benefit of everyone is through an economic charter of rights.

One of the key factors that fueled Magna’s success over many decades was the economic charter of rights Frank created. The economic charter was based on the idea that the three driving forces of a business – employees, management and investors – should all share in the success of the business.

Frank would later enshrine these principles in Magna’s unique Corporate Constitution, guaranteeing the rights of employees, investors, and management to share in the profits they help produce. To this day, Magna is believed to be the only company in the world with such a Constitution.

Frank had created a winning blueprint – one that Harvard Business School would several decades later describe as Magna’s “success formula.”

The Magna economic charter is a forerunner of the national economic charter of rights Frank is promoting today in many countries.

The proposed charter would give citizens a number of rights, and impose certain financial obligations on governments, including the obligation to run balanced budgets, eliminate debt, slash red tape and reduce spending on government overhead.

Stronach believes an Economic Charter of Rights will improve the living standards of a country while reducing the growing divide between the rich and the working class.

“Our human charters of rights and freedoms need to be augmented and fortified with economic charters of rights, including the right of workers to accumulate wealth through profit participation. Economic charters of rights will lead to economic democracies, and economic democracies are the basis for democracy itself.”
